emo & tick

With text messaging and social media postings, the limit of characters has made us involuntarily reduce our vocabulary and become accustomed to typing and reading abbreviations and acronyms, along with the generalized use of emoticons to contextualize the message’s emotional tone. emo & tick started as an Internet based project – 10 short animated episodes – that aimed to ironically analyze the compression of language and self-expression. The two characters are based on Japanese emoticons, and engage in different conversations related to this new condition: short instant and condensed messaging as a way of communicating. They’re in fact a bridge between how social interactions used to be and how they are now.
